21 Days to Pangie

Nails and Cooking – Day 2

I went grocery shopping today on a quest for Andrew&Everett cheese which has been my favorite brand since I started eating cheese again. I finally found some at Sprouts, but they didn’t have my string cheese! :( But I did get some cheddar slices, so it was burger night!

Nails: It went pretty well today. I wiped out pretty bad by the mailbox yesterday and my hands are still pretty sore from falling on them, so I didn’t have much interest in chewing on my nails. Hey, whatever works!

Cooking: Rosie made herself a cheeseburger and brought it over, and I microwaved a Sunshine Burger and a GF bun for myself, and then baked some fries for the both of us. Burger night! :)

Cleaning – Days 1-7

Week 1 went fairly well. Unfortunately I am not yet at the “maintenance” stage. So far I have gone through a lot of stuff to clean it out, and I got rid of a lot of stuff, which always feels awesome. The closet in the guest room is starting to empty out, finally. I only did two loads of dishes, which is kind of silly, but it’s better than nothing.

My bathroom is currently a disaster area. I’m trying to clean out things I won’t use. It’s much harder than it seems like it should be! I may need to have someone come over and help me go through each item and say “Yes I use this” or “No I will never use this” to get this figured out! My goal for this week is to get the bathroom done, then clean it top to bottom, and clean the kitchen top to bottom. Wish me luck!

Running, Situps, and Girly Pushups – Day 2

Today kind of felt like cheating. It was a rest day for all 3 things. But I’m following the plans, so I guess it’s still success! Melalvai commented that she’d have a hard time with something that isn’t every day. I’m inclined to agree here.

I went to the dentist today. I was all excited to tell her about my success in flossing thanks to the 21-day plan. And it showed! She said I removed 6 out of 8 bleeding points. Everything looks good, no cavities, etc. Woo! Success! Next time I will have those last two removed as well.

She was also curious about the 21-day thing in general. She said, “So that means I’d have to go 21 days without eating McDonalds to break my McDonalds habit?!” I nodded and she said she’d never be able to do that and that she can’t even go one day. Ugh. I can’t even comprehend that. Yuck.

Running: Rest Day.
Situps: Rest Day.
Girly Pushups: Rest Day.

Meal Plans – Day 2

Day two! Here’s the plan this time:

Breakfast: Banana, strawberries, and fresh-squeezed orange juice
Lunch: Sweet Potato and Almonds
Dinner: Quinoa, chard, bamboo shoots, and winter squash
Snack: Millet and almonds

Once again, I didn’t eat all of this. I started off really well, though! I woke up well, went to work juicing my oranges, cut up and washed my strawberries, and then turned my attention to the millet. There is this website I’ve encountered that promises me I can pop various grains in the same manner as popcorn. I have yet to get this to actually work, though. It tells me amaranth, quinoa, and millet are all poppable. To some extent I believe them. The process involves heating up the oil, and while you do that, you put 3 grains in the oil. When they pop, you know it’s ready for the rest. They always pop. It IS possible! BUT, every time I add all the grains, it’s just a big mess of oily, grainy fail. It doesn’t pop, it burns, etc. This time, with the millet, when I noticed it wasn’t working, I tried toasting it instead. Turns out, this isn’t tasty or edible really. Mandee has an air-popper, and this weekend we’re going to try some grains with that. This same site claims air-popping will work for these grains as well. If this works, I’ll pick up an air-popper this weekend when I go to BB&B with my mom. The one they have is the same popper Melalvai has and she said she’s been very pleased with it and that Nelalvai uses it nearly daily, so that’s a good sign. I will keep you all posted on how that goes.

Macrobiotic – Day 2

Today my friend Mandee came over, and I sent her home with two big bags of groceries and a huge bag of knock-off-brand Cheerios. (Scooters!) All that’s left in my kitchen with any allergens now is just a small bit of corn and peanuts.

Food has included salad+dressing, almonds, oatmeal, soup, and I didn’t write down anything, so probably quite a bit more. :)

Biking has continued on the stationary, flossing is continuing every evening, and waking has continued at 7:00AM every morning.

Nails, Flossing, and Sleep – Day 2

Nails: Definitely hard still. Will likely need the gloves for quite a while yet.

Flossing: I know I’m supposed to floss in the evening, but I remember in the morning, so that’s what I’ve been doing.

Sleep: I woke up at 7:00AM as planned. I fought the urge to nap. I lost the battle around 12:30. At least I made it past morning!

Biking: I did some stationary biking when fighting napping.

Biking – Day 2: First ride outside!

I took Reva outside for her maiden voyage this afternoon! I had a couple books waiting for me at Barnes & Noble, so I hooked up my basket and rode the 1.4 miles there. It was bike path for nearly the entire way, save half a block from my place to the beginning of the path, so I didn’t have much traffic to worry about. It wasn’t easy, but I did it and I am proud of myself! It was a little below freezing, so the weather wasn’t too bad. I really hate my coat for biking, though. It’s a pea-coat, which is a terrible idea for biking. It’s great for looking pretty, but it’s too bulky and doesn’t breathe well for biking. :) My thighs ended up pretty cold, kinda numb, but the rest of me stayed warm.

I learned quite a few things today:

  • It takes me a long time to get ready for biking.
  • My leg muscles are not very strong.
  • I am very out of shape.
  • It’s a good idea to bring a hairbrush when biking somewhere where you would like to look at least moderately presentable.
  • A quick-release basket is, like, the greatest idea ever.
  • Biking into the wind is really hard.
  • I am totally happy that I am starting this in a dreadfully flat city.
  • People in cars stare at bikers.
  • I don’t think my gloves are the right size and shape for my hands and I’m going to try to exchange them tomorrow.
  • Biking in a street isn’t as scary as it sounds when the street is totally not busy. :)
  • I bike backwards from my bike guru. She said when she stops, she keeps her right foot in the pedal and puts the left foot on the ground. I do it the other way around. This doesn’t surprise me though, since I skateboard goofy-footed.
  • My bike doesn’t have a top tube, and I am very grateful for that today. My knee braces make it difficult to bend enough to get on and off very easily, and the top tube would only make things worse.
  • My friend Matt is right: I need ankle straps. My pant leg was flapping in the breeze and hit the chain guard a bit.
  • If I am feeling discouraged and want to call someone for a ride, call Mandee! She never answers. ;) If I actually legitimately for real need a ride, call someone else.

More tomorrow!
